Year End Review 2012

NOTE: This was not published at the time. It was a forgotten draft until 2021. I remember getting interrupted and not being able to finish. However, now I think it’s kind of fun to read.

Tonight is the last council meeting of the year. I type this as I sit at the Dias in council chambers. That has become the tradition I set into motion my first year on the council. Although it seems as if I only post every other year, oh well this one is due.

I can’t possibly sum up this year with one word, besides I used the word “challenging” two years ago, and that was going to be it. Also, I can’t believe I posted about doing a police ride-along, and then this happened that night. http://www.yumasun.com/articles/yuma-66529-beeson-police.html

Year End Review 2012 from a City of Yuma Councilmember.
“I ask you to judge me by the enemies I have made.” ― Franklin D. Roosevelt

If you have been following any of the city drama, you know why President Roosevelt is quoted above. This year I survived my first recall attempt. It had no merit and failed, however, it is still troubling that one would devote oneself to public service and challenged not on the grounds of official duty but on revenge for their friend. This is not how gentleman does business, only fools. I will not embellish into negativity, I will only say that surviving a recall attempt is what validates you.

The vote that prompted this action was the same one that caused the city to burn. In hindsight, it was still the best decision that could have been made under those circumstances. I think about that vote almost every day, I second guess my decision and think of what the other city would look like if it went the other way. I think about it and nothing changes. That vote severed our office from the city, which had to been done. The people hurt the most have been the council, as it has fractured our ability to function in the city. I see it as a sacrifice, for we are the ones hurt. It has been horrible for a member of the council, however it prevented further abuse of power from the one who refers to himself as king.

I feel nothing but disgust for the vial one who hides behind his title and religion. The only thing that keeps me going. I know the truth. The truth is what powered the action. I am confident that all good works out in the end.

We also broke ground on a fire station and police sub-station. Welcomed the F-35 into Yuma. witnessed the development of the transit center, (Union Station). I began my second term, and tonight is the conclusion of my fifth year.

I have never experience how worked up we all became with the election this year. Of course, we never had so much to lose, well not for a couple of hundred years anyways.
