I am just going to give you my personal reasons for voting NO on Prop 300.
- Property owners exist who have not signed the consent. We do not have 50% +1.
- As a city we are absorbing the cost for growth, this is a chance to limit that cost/growth temporarily.
- Ask yourself. Will the City be responsible for all the open mind shafts and ventilation shafts in the mountains? (hundreds)
- This will probably come back in a few years (or in 2008) with a smaller area to annex and the rightful consent from ALL the property owners.
- Bureau of Land Management is doing a fine job of managing that land. Leave the city out of the picture. When the Annexation Abuse lawsuit came up we (the city) had the opportunity to demonstrate that the City of Yuma was competent to manage this issue instead we immediately outsourced the lawsuit to a Phoenix law firm, which cost the city over $110,000.
- As soon as we get that 92 sq miles we are going to create an overlay district and apply laws, ordinances and codes to that area. Truthfully I would like to leave this alone and see a little bit less (city) government in our lives.
